This project belongs to the discipline of textile materials. Ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) fiber is the fiber with the highest specific strength and ballistic resistance among industrialized fiber materials. It is an important strategic material and is widely used in national defense and military, aerospace, ocean engineering and petrochemical fields. For a long time, domestic fiber-grade UHMWPE resin polymerization and advanced fiber preparation technology have been restricted by large foreign companies such as Ticona, DSM, and Honeywell, which have imposed strict technical blockade and banned the sale of high-end products in my country. Through joint research by industry, academia and research, this project has formed key technologies for the polymerization and advanced spinning of fiber-grade special UHMWPE resins with independent intellectual property rights: it has realized the localization of high-performance fiber-grade UHMWPE special resins, mastered the UHMWPE dry route spinning. Complete set of technology has overcome high-concentration wet route spinning and UHMWPE fiber surface modification technology, and formed a series of UHMWPE resin and fiber modification processing and characterization analysis methods. The project applied for 15 invention patents, of which 11 were authorized, and published 25 papers, of which 3 were included in SCI. The overall project is at the international advanced level. The innovation points of this project are as follows:

  1. A new high-efficiency catalyst for the polymerization of fiber-grade UHMWPE special resin and a polymerization engineering scale-up method to accurately control different molecular weights were invented, and large-scale production was achieved. The project has developed a new special catalyst with catalytic activity ≥20000 gPE/gCat, average particle size of 24.264μm, particle size distribution width (D90-D10)/D50=0.992, achieving UHMWPE molecular weight (2 - 8 million) and molecular weight distribution (PD=2~4) The controllable adjustment has formed the industrial production of 5000 tons/year fiber special resin. It has two brands of resins, SLL-X400 and SLL-X600, for wet and dry routes spinning, of which the dry route fiber special resin is the only proprietary product in China.
  2. Invented the key technology for continuous industrial production of high-end UHMWPE dry route spinning and the key technology for high-concentration wet route spinning. The characteristics of different spinning processes were systematically studied, key technologies such as solution preparation, extrusion, solvent evaporation and primary filament preparation in dry spinning were mastered, and a complete set of UHMWPE dry spinning test lines with complete functions was independently designed and applied. The obtained fiber was 222.4 dtex, a breaking strength of 38.1 cN/dtex, a modulus of 1500cN/dtex, and an elongation of 3.39%. The product properties are comparable to those of DSM-SK76, reaching the international advanced level. A wet spinning technology for high-concentration UHMWPE has been developed, realizing the commercial production of coarse denier UHMWPE fibers. The concentration of spinning liquor has been increased to 16 wt %, and the spinning efficiency has been doubled.
  3. Invented and formed modification processing technology and characterization and analysis methods for UHMWPE resin and fiber. An on-line surface modification technology has been developed during the production process of UHMWPE fibers, which has improved the bonding property between fiber and resin. The bulletproof V50 of the surface modified UHMWPE target has been increased from unmodified 551.4 m/s to 589.1 m/s, which has reached the international advanced level; developed UHMWPE fiber creep performance testing technology with independent intellectual property rights, and established a technical service platform for resin and fiber modification processing and testing analysis.
    This project has formed a series of products such as fiber-grade UHMWPE special resin, offshore cables, body armor, cut-resistant gloves and protective fabrics. In the past three years, the cumulative added output value has been 470 million yuan and profits and taxes have been 81.15 million yuan. Resin and fiber products have driven the downstream output value. The output value exceeds 3 billion yuan/year and is exported overseas. Fiber-specific UHMWPE resin has won the Shanghai City Patent New Product Certificate and National Key New Products; the success of the project is of great significance to the localization of UHMWPE fiber specific resin and high-end fiber preparation technology in my country, and has greatly improved my country's high-performance fiber industry. International competitiveness.
