Rolls-Royce today announced that it has successfully tested a 12-cylinder gas-fired variant of the mtu S4000L64 engine running on 100% hydrogen fuel. These tests were conducted by Rolls Rolls 'Power Systems Division and showed quite good efficiency, performance, emissions and combustion performance. These tests show that the company has taken another important step towards the commercial application of hydrogen energy solutions to meet customers 'needs for a more sustainable energy supply. Tobias Ostermaier, President of Fixed Power Solutions for Rolls-Royce Powersystems, explained: "This engine will meet the market demand for hydrogen energy solutions under the general trend of energy transformation and provide reliable and clean source power for our customers 'generator sets and co-power dual power plants." As part of the new container terminal's climate-neutral energy supply, the company plans to deploy mtu engines running on 100% hydrogen fuel for the first time in the enerPort II Lighthouse project in the German inland port of Duisburg.
