Key innovations
New PVDF membrane materials and MBR technology with independent intellectual property rights achieve high throughput, low energy consumption, long life, performance reaches domestic leading and international cutting-edge, and reduces costs by 30%.
Potential economic benefits
Reduce energy consumption and investment costs by 30%, extend service life, realize large-scale production and sewage resource utilization, and have huge market potential.
Potential climate benefits
This MBR technology significantly reduces power consumption and related carbon emissions in the sewage treatment process by reducing energy consumption per ton of water by 30%. The long life (more than 5 years) and easy-to-clean characteristics of membrane materials reduce the frequency of membrane replacement and maintenance requirements, thereby reducing the implied carbon emissions from material production and transportation.

Solution details

Developed a new high-flux, hydrophilic lightweight PVDF hollow fiber membrane material with independent intellectual property rights, with a service life of more than 5 years. Based on the new PVDF membrane material, we have developed a low-energy, easy-to-clean MBR membrane assembly, and have developed the construction of

Set up a large-scale production platform for membrane materials and membrane assemblies, ultimately forming a production capacity of 6 million m2 of PVDF hollow fiber membrane materials per year, and forming an MBR series of products with a processing scale of 5 to 1,000 m3/d. During the implementation of the project, this achievement was demonstrated in many projects such as Kunming No. 10th Sewage Treatment Plant (underground, 150,000 m3/d), Jilin City Sewage Treatment Plant Phase II (150,000 m3/d), Beijing City Sewage Treatment Plant Phase II Reconstruction Project (140,000 m3/d), and Beijing Qinghe Sewage Plant Reclaimed Water Project Phase II (150,000 m3/d), with a cumulative promotion and application scale reaching 2.5 million m3/d. The stable operating flux of MBR is>20 L/(m2 º h), and the operating energy consumption per ton of water is 0.5 kWh/m3, which is 30% lower than that at the time of application for the project (2010). The technical level is at the leading domestic and international forefront. Based on the above results, the topic applied for 11 domestic patents (7 have been authorized), obtained 2 software copyrights for membrane method operation automatic control system, and published 8 papers (including 4 SCI papers). In order to promote the results of this project to the whole country, the project undertaking unit and 21 units jointly established the MBR Industry Alliance, using Beijing, Taihu Basin, and Dianchi Basin as key demonstration areas to promote mature technologies to other areas in need. Through the implementation of this project, not only will sewage be turned into a new water source and sewage resources be realized, but the investment cost per unit of treated water volume is reduced by 30% compared with foreign products, and good social and economic benefits have been achieved.
