Tencent's carbon neutrality action route
Key innovations
For the first time, it demonstrated the permanent treatment of carbon dioxide stored in basalt as an environmentally friendly carbonate mineral.
Potential economic benefits
CarbFix captures, transports and stores carbon dioxide at a price of € 22 per metric ton, and the entire CCS cycle is less than half of previous cost estimates.

Carbfix
Leveraging technology to turn carbon dioxide into stone, providing natural and permanent storage solutions
Solution details

Carbfix's carbonated water reacts with rocks underground and releases available cations such as calcium, magnesium and iron into the water flow. Over time, these elements combine with dissolved CO2 and form carbonates, filling the voids (pores) in the rock. Carbonates can be stable for thousands of years and can therefore be considered permanent storage.
Currently, Tencent and Icelandic carbon sequestration company Carbfix will build the first carbon dioxide mineralization and sequestration demonstration project in China
