Key innovations
Using "ingredient agnosticism" technology, byproducts of the vegetable oil industry, including soybeans and sunflower seed cake, produce meat that is rich in the same amounts of protein and fiber while omitting unwanted fat, cholesterol and sodium.
Potential economic benefits
This method is very cost-effective compared to raising livestock to produce meat, with prototypes showing cost parity with chicken and beef at approximately US$1.10/kg. It is also cheaper than other alternative sources of protein, such as soy concentrate or pea isolate.
Potential climate benefits
Significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions in meat production; save water, using half a liter of water compared to competitors that use as much as 20-30 liters per kilogram of final product; reduce the transformation of natural ecosystems into agricultural land and reduce the pressure on biodiversity.
