This project belongs to the discipline of automobile and vehicle engineering and the field of new energy vehicles in vehicle engineering.
This project was launched in May 2009, during which a total of more than 600 million yuan was invested in development funds. In December 2013, after completing the product development and verification work, it was sold in batches on the market. By the end of March 2016, a total of 15517 units had been sold.
Through the development of this project, the main innovative results achieved include:

1. Innovatively proposed a dual motor and torque coordinated drive technical solution. This is a brand new series-parallel electromechanical coupling configuration, which has been authorized by the US PCT invention patent and the China invention patent. This architecture is a second-speed electric-driven gearbox assembly composed of dual motors, two clutches, synchronizers and other components to realize intelligent selection and switching of hybrid modes such as pure electric and series/parallel.
2. Innovative breakthroughs have been achieved in vehicle control of this drive technology. Boldly innovations have been made in energy management and torque distribution, mode switching, shift control, clutch control, etc. of the triple power of engine, TM motor and ISG motor, applied for 6 core invention patents for control technology, and achieved good application results. This configuration has achieved a fuel consumption index of 1.6L/100km (NEDC operating conditions) on the Roewe e550 plug-in hybrid vehicle.
3. Innovative breakthroughs have been made in the safety and durability of power battery systems. The developed battery system has the characteristics of low internal resistance, low self-discharge rate, low attenuation rate and good low-temperature characteristics, and has passed the safety certification of UL, an international authoritative organization.
4. A sustainable development technical system and three power development capabilities have been formed. Through the development of this project, a development and verification system for plug-in hybrid power systems has been formed.
5. A reliable core component manufacturing system mastered by SAIC has been formed. The electric drive gearbox of Shanghai Automobile Transmission Co., Ltd., the battery system of Shanghai Jiexin Power Battery Systems Co., Ltd., the motor of Huayu Automobile Electric Systems Co., Ltd., and the inverter/motor of United Electronic Automobile Co., Ltd. have gradually established a core component manufacturing capacity to meet the needs of 50,000 vehicles per year (2016).
   As of April 2016, this project has obtained 92 patent authorizations and 94 patent application acceptances; obtained 6 software copyright registrations, 67 corporate proprietary technologies and 9 national technology certifications, and participated in the formulation of 19 national/industry standards; Published 1 monograph on new energy vehicles.
   SAIC Roewe e550 plug-in hybrid sedan was independently developed by SAIC Motor Corporation and has completely independent intellectual property rights. As of the end of 2015, it had generated an output value of 2.94 billion yuan and a profit and tax of 181 million yuan.
