The structural formula of polyethylene glycol (PEG) is HO[CH2CH2O]nH. Due to the influence of chain length, polyethylene glycol of different molecular weights often have different physical properties (such as viscosity) and different applications, but most of the polyethylene glycol chemical properties are similar. Low-molecular weight polyethylene glycol usually refers to a purer oligomer, which is more monodisperse; high-purity polyethylene glycol has crystalline properties, so its crystal structure can be determined by X-light. Semi-solids with a relative molecular mass between 700 and 900. Those with a relative molecular mass of 1000 and above are light white waxy solids or flake paraffin or flowing powder. It is miscible in water, soluble in many organic solvents, such as alcohols, ketones, chloroform, glycerides and aromatic hydrocarbons, and insoluble in diethyl ether and n-hexane. The product after it is combined with hydrophobic molecules can be used as a non-ionic surfactant. As the molecular weight increases, its water solubility, vapor pressure, water absorption and solubility in organic solvents decrease accordingly, while the freezing point, relative density, flash point and viscosity increase accordingly. It is thermally stable, does not work with many chemicals, and does not hydrolyze. Currently, the main application areas of PEG are located in medicine, personal care products, and manufacturing industries (such as the automotive industry, construction industry, coatings industry, etc.). Traditional PEG mostly uses conventional bases containing potassium or sodium as catalysts, which has high reactivity for PEG with low molecular weight. However, the catalyst residue is high and the molecular weight distribution is wide, especially for the PEG series requiring relative molecular weights higher than 8000. Not only does the reaction activity become lower, but the relative molecular weight distribution of the obtained product become wider and wider as the molecular weight increases, and reaction by-products increase, which seriously affects the use effect of the product. In response to this problem, Shanghai Dongda Chemical Co., Ltd. has developed a highly active catalyst through research and development, which not only solves the wide distribution industry problem of conventional high molecular weight PEG, but also produces a product that not only has a narrow distribution, but also has low catalyst residue; it also applies the catalyst to other oxylated products. It not only meets the demand of domestic customers for this product, but also partially exports it abroad, which not only improves the company's competitiveness but also creates economic benefits for the company. From 2016 to 2018, the total sales volume was 14 million yuan and the profit was 4.56 million yuan.
