Key innovations
This technology combines ridge film coverage and ridge irrigation to innovatively improve the soil temperature and water use efficiency of seed production corn, achieving significant increase in production and water conservation.
Potential economic benefits
This technology significantly increases corn production by 9% to 15%, directly increasing farmers 'income. Save water by 25% to 37%, and significantly reduce irrigation costs and water resources investment. At the same time, by reducing ineffective evaporation and deep leakage, water use efficiency is optimized, total production costs are reduced, and agricultural economic benefits and market competitiveness are significantly improved.
Potential climate benefits
Water saving by 25-37% significantly reduces irrigation energy consumption and carbon emissions. Increasing production by 9-15% improves land and resource use efficiency, thereby reducing the carbon footprint per unit of production.

Solution details

Technical overview:

The water-saving cultivation technology model of ridge film furrow irrigation for seed production corn is referred to as ridge film furrow irrigation technology for seed production corn, which means that after ridging is carried out on the surface, the ridge is covered with plastic film or the ridge and furrows are covered with full film, and sowing crops on the ridge. Planting technology using ridge and furrows to irrigate. This technology increases the soil temperature at seedling stage through ridging cultivation and promotes increased crop production. The use of ridge irrigation accelerates the irrigation flow rate, reduces the amount of irrigation, reduces ineffective evaporation and deep leakage after farmland irrigation, and effectively improves crop water use efficiency.

Technical effect:

In irrigated land, compared with flat planting and film covering cultivation of seed corn, the yield increased by 9% to 15%, and the water saved by 25% to 37%.

Technical points:

(1) Select land and prepare land. Select plots with deep soil layers, water and fertilizer retention, convenient irrigation, and slopes ≤1‰. Before sowing, careful soil preparation must be carried out, requiring level, soft soil and sufficient moisture.

(2) Fertilization. Generally, 3,000 - 5,000 kg of high-quality decomposed farmyard manure is applied to each mu, 16 - 20 kg/mu of chemical fertilizer is applied to pure nitrogen, and 16 - 20kg/mu of P2O5. Among them, all phosphate fertilizers are used as the base fertilizer, and 4.8 - 6 kg/mu of nitrogen fertilizer is used as the base fertilizer. 4.8 - 6kg/mu is applied in combination with head water during the jointing stage of the female parent, and 6.4 - 8kg/mu is applied in combination with Sanshui after the female parent is tasseled.

(3) Ridging and covering films. After the base fertilizer is applied, use a 25 - 30 horsepower four-wheel tractor to pull the corn/seed production corn ridging and film-covering machine to complete ridging and film-covering operations in one go 5 - 7 days before sowing. The ridge width is required to be 100cm, the ridge width is 60cm, the ditch width is 40cm, and the ridge height is 20cm. Half film coverage uses a 100cm width plastic film to cover the ridge surface, and full film coverage uses a 140cm width plastic film to cover the ridge surface and furrows. When covering the film, it is required to be tightened and pressed tightly to the ridge surface. After covering the film, the ridge surface should be pressed in time, and the soil belt should be pressed horizontally every 2 to 3 meters.

(4) Sowing. Select parent seeds with plump grains before sowing, sun plant for 1 to 2 days, and coat the seeds with a suitable coating agent. The suitable sowing date is when the ground temperature of the local surface 5 cm soil layer stabilizes at 12℃. Various localities determine the sowing date based on local climate characteristics, generally in mid-to-late April. Whether parents sow seeds at wrong dates and the specific wrong dates are determined according to the requirements of different varieties. Two rows of female parents are planted on the ridge with a row spacing of 50cm. The male parent is sown between the two rows of female parents on the ridge. The spacing between parent planting plants is determined according to the specific variety. Manually dished or use a manually pushed hole seeder to plant 2 - 3 seeds per hole, and the sowing depth is 3 - 5cm. Seal the membrane holes with fine soil after sowing.

(5) Irrigation. Irrigation is irrigated 5 times during the whole growth period, with an irrigation quota of 300 - 330m3/mu. The irrigation amount of the female parent is 70 - 75 m3/mu during the jointing stage, 60 - 65 m3/mu during the big bell mouth stage, 60 - 65m3/mu after male extraction, 55 - 65 m3/mu in the middle filling stage, and 55 - 60 m3/mu in the late filling stage. When irrigating water, the water flow intensity should not be too high. Irrigation slowly with small water, irrigate ditches and do not overflow ridges.

(6) Field management. Timely release seedlings after emergence, timely thinning, fixing, removing impurities, and emasculating, pay attention to weeding, and strengthen pest control.

Suitable areas:

This technology is mainly used in irrigation land in Hexi Oasis Irrigation Area, Irrigation Area along the Yellow River and similar ecological type areas below 1700m above sea level.
