Key innovations
This technological innovation lies in systematically solving the complex problem of blending petroleum coke in pulverized coal boilers, and achieving efficient utilization of cheap fuels and emission reduction of SO2 through integrated solutions such as combustion optimization, corrosion prevention, dust removal, and material preparation and transportation.
Potential economic benefits
Use cheap petroleum coke to significantly reduce fuel costs and improve energy efficiency. This technology ensures safe and economical operation of power stations and reduces environmental expenditures related to SO2 emissions.
Potential climate benefits
This technology optimizes the mixed combustion of coal and petroleum coke to ensure that fuel is fully burned out and significantly improves the overall thermal efficiency of the boiler. Higher energy efficiency directly reduces fuel consumption per unit of power generation, thereby reducing carbon dioxide emissions from coal-fired power plants.

Solution details

Background: Petroleum coke is a by-product of the refining process. Its fuel has high calorific value and low price. Shaking petroleum coke can bring huge economic benefits to users and is also an effective means to improve energy utilization. However, after blending petroleum coke, the combustion conditions of the pulverized coal boiler become more complex.

Introduction to the results: Petroleum coke has volatile matter (5 - 10%), carbon content of about 85%, and high calorific value (~31000kj/kg). It is a cheap fuel resource that can be utilized. By blending a certain proportion of petroleum coke in pulverized coal boilers, this cheap resource can not only be utilized, but also boiler fly ash has a certain sulfur fixation effect, which is also beneficial to reducing SO2 emission pollution from burning coke. Petroleum coke has the characteristics of high carbon and extremely difficult to burn out, high material viscosity, poor fluidity and grindability. During blending, it will also bring some problems to various production links of power station boiler units. This technology can ensure the safety and economy of power station boilers operating under the condition of blending petroleum coke.  The system technologies include: optimization technology for combustion of coal and petroleum coke mixed powder; flue gas corrosion prevention technology for co-burning of coal and petroleum coke; electrostatic dust collection technology for co-burning of coal and petroleum coke; and preparation and transportation technology for coal and petroleum coke mixed powder.
