Carbon aerogels have good electrical conductivity among similar aerogel materials (5 ~ 40s/<sub>C</sub>m), and has a high specific surface area, making it a new ideal electrode material. At present, foreign research focuses on the application of carbon aerogels to supercapacitor (electric double layer capacitor) electrodes, gas diffusion electrodes, fuel electrochemical cells electrodes, rechargeable battery electrodes, etc. Tongji University's research work in this area has also been carried out for nearly ten years and achieved certain results.
The goal of the research is to use carbon aerogel as an electrode to trial-produce a seawater desalination principle device and conduct optimization research on various parameters. This material is a typical environmentally friendly and energy-saving material, which is conducive to environmental protection and comprehensive utilization of resources. The research results can be applied to seawater desalination, new energy devices and other fields.
