Key innovations
Molecular grafting technology is used to graft high-efficiency organic antibacterial agents onto the filter material to realize the simultaneous implementation of air filtration and instantaneous broad-spectrum sterilization, overcoming the limitations of traditional filtration and disinfection.
Potential economic benefits
Reduce operation, maintenance and medical costs, protect public health, expand the application market, and bring significant and sustainable economic benefits.
Potential climate benefits
The sterilization filter can replace independent, energy-consuming chemical/physical disinfection equipment, thereby saving electricity. Its unique sterilization mechanism may reduce the need for ultra-high resistance filtration and reduce fan energy consumption. At the same time, reduce the use of chemical disinfectants and reduce carbon emissions from related production and transportation.

Solution details
- Project background:
Air filtration is an indispensable part of our lives and can be seen almost everywhere in many public and living occasions such as medical institutions, public transportation, airport stations, public spaces, school theaters, office facilities, etc. The main purpose of traditional air filtration technology and products is to isolate and collect particulate matter in the air. The specifications of air filters are mainly distinguished by the filter particle size of the filter material. Of course, the smaller the size of the filter particles, the better the air filtering effect, but the greater the filtering resistance and the higher the energy consumption.
"High-efficiency air filters" on the market can isolate viruses and bacteria in the air while isolating dust. Therefore, it is widely used in occasions requiring medical isolation to prevent cross-infection and air antibacterial isolation and purification. However, it has high manufacturing costs, high wind resistance, and high maintenance costs and cannot be widely used in general public places. At the same time, simple physical isolation of viruses and bacteria cannot kill viruses and bacteria, posing a potential hazard of secondary pollution. - Project Introduction:
Indoor air sterilization and disinfection is the most effective method to prevent cross-infection of viruses and bacteria. There are many traditional sterilization and disinfection methods, mainly chemical (chemical disinfectants) and physical (filtration isolation, ultraviolet or ozone, etc.) methods. However, chemical and ultraviolet ozone disinfection are harmful to the human body during use. Operation requires people to leave the sterilization and disinfection space, so these disinfection methods can only be operated intermittently and are not suitable for public places with large human flow.
In open spaces, especially when central air conditioners are used, the most ideal and convenient method to sterilize and disinfect indoor air is to use an air filter with sterilization function to simultaneously sterilize and disinfect the air during the air purification process, or install an air filter with sterilization function at the air inlet of the central air conditioner. In this way, there is no need to add additional sterilization and disinfection equipment, no additional manual operation is generated, and there is no harm to the human body, so it can operate continuously.
Air filters with sterilization function require their filter materials to have long-term sterilization functions, that is, adding sterilization functions to traditional air filter materials. It is common to use antibacterial materials such as inorganic nano-silver in polymer materials by physical mixing means to make antibacterial filters. However, due to insufficient sterilization speed, strength and broad spectrum of inorganic antibacterial agents, the effect on fungi and molds is not good. When this filter (material) is used, the antibacterial of the filter material itself is mainly considered. Because the air passes through the filter for a short time, the filter aperture cannot intercept viruses and bacteria or fungi and molds that pass through the filter with the air, and cannot achieve the killing effect.
Therefore, research and development of new sterilization filter materials can efficiently kill viruses and bacteria while filtering air, and cycle sterilization and disinfection of indoor air to avoid cross-infection in public spaces, especially those using central air conditioning. Safety and health protection of public spaces will play a major role. - Project technology:
Organic antibacterial agents (such as quaternary ammonium salts, etc.) have stronger rapid sterilization performance and spectral properties than inorganic antibacterial agents, and can kill almost all viruses and bacteria in the instant of contact. However, because organic antibacterial agents are hydrophilic, it is a recognized technical problem to mix them with hydrophobic polymer materials to make filter materials.
The new air sterilization filter material (device) uses special molecular grafting technology to graft organic antibacterial functional groups onto the molecular structure of hydrophobic polymer materials through special modification and combination technology to prepare new polymer materials with sterilization functions., while not affecting the processing and forming properties of polymer materials. This material is made into a filter material (device) with sterilization function according to traditional processes, which can be applied to air purification and sterilization in open spaces. During use, in addition to the proper air filtration performance, it has an instant killing function on viruses and bacteria trapped on or in contact with the filter material. If the sterilization filter is installed and configured in the space with the air inlet and outlet, the air repeatedly passes through the filter for indoor air circulation and ventilation, gradually achieving the effect of sterilization and disinfection of the space air.
At the same time, antibacterial molecular grafting antibacterial technology and materials have also been widely used in masks and clothing, food packaging, household appliances and other fields, and have obtained many invention patents and national testing agency certifications.
