Plastic Packaging Cycle Guidelines
Key innovations
Using starch-based foam, which functions similar to polystyrene foam, captures air, minimizes conduction and convection, and maintains the required internal temperature. Uchimura uses pre-formed chain manufacturing to improve thermal properties and save time for packaging operations. The lining is waterproof to protect internal insulation and absorb excess condensate.
Potential economic benefits
ClimaCell insulated packaging is a two-piece flat package that reduces transportation and storage logistics before use.
Potential climate benefits
Since 2018, the use of ClimaCell packaging instead of EPS packaging has reduced the number of foam cooling bags in landfills by 22 million; this packaging will reduce its average carbon emissions by 65% compared to EPS packaging.

Solution details

ClimaCell uses starch-based foam, which functions similar to polystyrene foam, trapping air, minimizing conduction and convection, and maintaining the required temperature inside the cargo. ClimaCell Uchimura uses pre-formed chain manufacturing to improve thermal properties and save time for packaging operations. ClimaCell is lined with waterproof to protect the integrity of the internal insulation while absorbing excess condensate so your product will not get wet in hot weather. Cotton fiber, impregnated paper and other starch alternatives lack structure, while ClimaCell liners are strong and fit firmly. Molded coolers take up a lot of space in trucks and warehouses. ClimaCell pads are transported and stored in flat form, so you can improve logistics efficiency.
